Position Summary: Exercises overall responsibility for inspecting, planning, programming, and implementing of the preventative maintenance electrical program of the University. The position requires an extensive and broad knowledge of multiple systems in a complex institutional environment with an understanding of the interrelationship of these systems. This is a multifunction position. While the primary focus is on preventative electrical maintenance, this position is frequently required to support tradesmen of other crafts and to direct, monitor and approve the actions, performance and/or products of contractors and vendors as they work for the University.

Essential and Related Functions:
Supervises the team which performs repairs, replacements, and maintenance to Campus and building electrical power and lighting systems.
Develops, coordinates, establishes and executes a schedule to ensure services or repairs on a frequency necessary to support departmental goals.
Organizes, trains, leads, schedules and supervises electrical crews to carry out tasks with a high level of craftsmanship.
Evaluates available electrical products, standardizes products and hardware to achieve economy.
Submits Purchase Requisitions to ensure ready availability of materials, supplies and equipment required.
Coordinates with Supervisor and Department Heads to ensure availability of facilities and/or areas to be repaired or installed and minimize disruption of ongoing operations.
Responsible for coordination of special projects with outside electrical contractors.
Determine and monitor Stock Inventory levels which pertain to the Electrical Department.
Maintains and submits reports of all man-hours and materials utilized in performing electrical functions for the University.
Develops estimate of costs to support requests for completion of electrical service or projects.
Develops budget needs through facilities inspections and maintenance operation reviews.
Maintains an awareness of expenditures for the Electrical Shop in comparison with said budget.
Responsible for the inventory and safe usage of University equipment and tools assigned to the Electrical Shop.
Supports development of plans and specifications to be used in preparation of the bids for acquiring services, contracts and items purchased by the University.
Performs personnel actions to include interviewing, hiring, evaluating, disciplining and recommending for termination personnel assigned to his area.
Provides high level of customer service to the University community.
Additional related duties as assigned.

Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with whole hand or arm as in handling.
Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
Repetitive motions: Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
Standing: Remaining upright on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of time.
Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces. This factor is important if the amount and kind of balancing the amount and kind of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.
Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized. This factor is important if the amount and kind of climbing required exceeds that required for ordinary locomotion.
Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.
Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
Crawling: Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.
Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.
Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles.
Working Conditions: The worker is subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside. The worker frequently is in close quarters, crawl spaces, shafts, man holes, small enclosed rooms, small sewage and water line pipes, and other areas which could cause claustrophobia.
Types of Work: Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
High school diploma or equivalent GED, minimum of eight (8) years’ experience working with electrical distribution, building power systems, and lighting systems on an educational campus. Must hold valid and current Virginia Master Electrician’s license. Skilled in all areas concerning the electrical industry. Knowledge of power wiring and controls and ability to read and understand blue prints. Knowledge of National and Local Electrical Codes. Valid and unrestricted State of Virginia Driver’s License required. Must be able to follow verbal and written directions and provide responses in writing. Ability to use computers to read and respond to emails and to use basic applications is also required. Possess normal vision, hearing and physical dexterity. Ability to work from scaffolds and ladders.
